Cancer Centre – The Oak – Royal Marsden

Project Description

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust have been working with Medical Architecture, to develop a next generation cancer research and care centre.

Recent advances in cancer diagnosis and personalised medicine require a new class of facility. This will bring patient care to the heart of the research community, as well as, helping to accelerate the transition of the latest advances in cancer medicine, from the researcher’s bench to the patient’s bedside.

Based in Sutton, south London, The Royal Marsden project will expect over 90,000 visits from cancer patients per year.  Medical Architecture have been working closely with the Charity and Trust to create a modern and comfortable patient environment. This will bring together over 300 clinical researchers, working alongside more than 300 health professionals, to provide expert care in a state of the art development.

The competition winning design will be funded by The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and signal a step change in the understanding and treatment of cancers. Its distinctive modern design will provide a world class facility, to reflect the world class treatment offered by The Royal Marsden’s clinical teams.

‘We need to future proof our hospital to make sure our expertise helps the maximum number of patients, for maximum benefit, not only now but for the years to come.’ Dr Liz Bishop, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive
