Project description:

The PPP Bid for the new Specialized Mental Healthcare (SMH) facilities in London and St Thomas Hospital, were designed to address a full range of physical, psychological and social determinants of health.

The project provides two new specialised mental health care facilities for 250 adult and young inpatients at London,  and a further 80 inpatients at a new forensic adult acute psychiatric hospital in St Thomas.

Medical Architecture were engaged by Acciona Canada and Walbridge Construction to draw on our successful European experience with PPP psychiatric projects.

We were responsible for developing the clinical planning vision for the proposal and lead the presentation of the project with Kasian.

The shortlisted proposals comprised a range of facilities including:  inpatient bedrooms; shared therapy and research accommodation; offices and support facilities.  All organised with a rigorous approach to articulating the patient recovery pathway.

The buildings are arranged around a central “mall” which provides an organised structure and a social hub.

All levels have direct access to outside space. Daylight permeates the living and working environment and the upper levels benefit from exceptional views.
