Project description:
We are proud to be contributing to this forward looking and game-changing research, the ‘Design for Future Climate Change: Adapting Buildings’ programme. Our Edge Lane Hospital project for Mersey Care NHS Trust is one of 26 key case studies in the first phase where  the architectural design of buildings across all sectors are future-proofed to cope with the demands of climate change.

Working with climate researchers at Oxford Brookes University and services engineers, Mott MacDonald Fulcrum, we modelled adaption strategies and future climate scenarios for 2030, 2050 and 2080. Human comfort levels will need to be maintained in a low carbon use future and buildings must be able to resist greater extremes of temperature, precipitation and wind speeds whilst remaining viable and flexible for longer. The research findings are being widely disseminated to raise awareness across the industry as to how buildings can be future proofed to be sequentially upgradeable.
