CCG Sign-off Plans for Whitby Hospital

Exciting plans to redevelop the Whitby Hospital site, designed by Medical Architecture, have been given the green light by the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group.

This flagship project exemplifies the aims of new NHS Plan, bringing complex diagnosis and treatment closer to the local population.

This approval brings an end to the uncertainty that has surrounded the future of Whitby Hospital, which was built over 50 years ago.

The proposal includes a new 19 bed inpatient ward open 7 days a week, a large new parking area, an ambulance bay, external pedestrian links and a plaza to connect the retained hospital tower block.

Under these redevelopments the hospital will offer a new range of outpatient health services to the local community, including a Minor Injuries Unit, radiology department, dental, podiatry and physiotherapy services.

Dr George Campbell, a local GP and NHS Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby CCG Governing Body member said: “I feel a huge sense of relief and pride to see these plans get the sign-off by the CCG after years of hard work. I’m so proud of the project team who have navigated through the challenges and for the staff and partners who have supported them.”
