Medical Architecture wins new NHS Sustainability Award

Clock View Hospital  has won an award at the Sustainable Health and Care Awards 2018. This 85 bed mental health unit was developed for Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust by developer Liverpool and Sefton Health Partnership. The new hospital is part of a network of mental health centres planned by the Trust which provide local accessible healthcare.

This modern health building has attracted international attention for its design and provides a catalyst for local urban regeneration in Walton, an area of deprivation. Quality of environment plays an important role in helping patients recover and also helps attract the best NHS staff. The energy efficient construction is well insulated, using low-carbon and largely natural materials, whilst its internal spaces are brightly lit with daylight, with therapeutic gardens and a structured landscape designed to support local ecology.

Winner of the inaugural ‘Capital Projects – Building Design Efficiency’ Award, the project is recognised as providing a benchmark for greater financial, social, and environmental sustainability across the NHS and Local Authorities.
